well i bought this glamour mag in London since its so much cheaper than in sin and there was this 1 particular article which reminds so much of my pessimism and negativity...here's some exerpts from the article:
-we focus relentlessly on what's making us dissatisfied that we forget what's great about our lives
- we tend to be very obsessed with what's wrong and what's missing rather than focusing on what we want and getting it
- we need to live more in the present and be more open to the possibilities of the here and now rather than worrying all the time about what might happen in the future
- we could all be happy in a heartbeat if we just made the decision to be so
- our bfs werent dropped into our lives by aliens- we chose them hence their flaws are probably part of the reason we are attracted to them
-be careful who you compare yourself to hence its better to look at people you know whose lives you admire and learn lessons from them instead
-it doesnt have to be what impresses people, but just what makes you feel good
-the elements of friendship we complain about- being taken advantage of, having to help them out are things that makes us happy
- forgiveness is one of the character traits most strongly linked to happiness
3 happiness traps
1> tryin to buy happiness through status, power and possessions
-no one ever thinks they have enough
2>trying to find happiness through overindulgence
-ie over-eating,over-spending "happy people know that it's wise to regularly back away from life's banquet so that pleasure will stay novel and refreshing
3>trying to be happy by resolving the past
- psychologists have discovered that helping people become happy, w/o fixating on their anguish, solves mental problems even better than fighting the problems directly
